Fishing for Swordfish
Fishing for swordfish is an exciting adventure that takes anglers far offshore to deep water. Swordfish prefer depths from 650 to 1,900 feet during the day but come closer to the surface at night to feed. These fish are known for their size, strength, and fight. Swordfish weigh up to 600 pounds and are considered the monsters of the sea! Hooking a swordfish and battling it to the surface is an unforgettable experience for those seeking the ultimate adrenaline rush!
What to Expect When Swordfishing
Swordfishing is very technical; requiring both knowledge and expertise. Your charter will be guided by an experienced captain, and in some cases, a first mate will also be on board. The trip offshore can be quite long, so be please be mindful of this when you’re booking a charter. You may also have the chance to fish along the way if your Captain spots a school of Mahi-Mahi.
When you arrive at the Swordfish grounds, your guide will use specialized gear such as deep-drop rigs and electric reels to target these fish. Fishermen often use bait like Squid or Bonita to attract Swordfish, deploying baits and heavy weights at different depths. After that, the waiting process will begin! Swordfishing can be unpredictable—some days you’ll get bites right away, but other times, it takes more time and effort, so patience is crucial. For those fortunate enough to get hooked up, the reward is like no other!
While families are welcome, we recommend swordfishing charters for adults due to its full-day duration and distance offshore. This trip is ideal for those who are looking for a challenge, have a trophy-hunting mindset, and are willing to embrace the day with patience and determination.

"I’ve been on several Swordfishing charters before, but I was never successful. Let’s just say that all changed when I went out with Captain Kyle. After a two-hour fight, we landed a 300-pound Swordfish. A day of fishing I’ll never forget!"

"My best friend and I decided to take our teenage sons on a  swordfishing charter during our recent vacation. After an hour of waiting and enjoying some quality time with our sons, we got hooked up! We came home with 200 pounds of swordfish and two incredibly happy kids. A huge thanks to Captain Brandon with Lucky B Sportfishing for giving us a day that will forever be remembered."
